LIGHTSUM

LIGHTSUM (Hangul: 라잇썸; Katana: ライトサム) is a six-member girl group under Cube Entertainment. The group consists of the members Yoon Sangah, Han Chowon, Kim Nayoung, Nagai Hina, Lee Juhyeon and Lee Yujeong.

Originally as eight, the group was reorganised without Oh Huiyeon and Kim Jian on October 25, 2022.[1] They made their debut on June 10, 2021 with their first single album "Vanilla".'

The group made their first six-member appearance with the single Pose! on August 7, 2024.

Name Meaning[]

Cube Entertainment described the group's name as meaning "bright LIGHTs will come together as one SUM in order to reach everyone across the world, becoming a group that will convey positive energy to everyone through their hopeful message."[2]

On April 15, 2021, a video posted on the group's social medias revealed their name and logo.[3] Later in the day, it was revealed that LIGHTSUM is set to debut in the first half of 2021, after Cube Entertainment decided to accelerate the group's debut preparations.[2]

On April 19, 2021, Sangah and Juhyeon were revealed as the group's first and second members respectively.[4][5] The next day, Chowon and Jian were reveal as the third and fourth members, respectively.[6][7] On April 20, Nayoung and Huiyeon were revealed as the fifth and sixth members respectively.[8][9] On April 21, Hina and Yujeong were revealed as the seventh and eighth members respectively.[10][11] Finally, on April 22, the group's profile photo was released.[12]

2021: Debut with "Vanilla", fandom name, first comeback with "Light a Wish"[]

On May 26, 2021, a teaser image posted on the group's socials medias announced their debut single album, titled "Vanilla", would be released on June 10.[13] On this day, the single album and its title track of the same name were released.

On September 17, LIGHTSUM announced their official fandom name to be "SUMIT". The name means "LIGHTSUM and their fans become one through the medium (it) of LIGHTSUM (sum)."[14]

On September 23, a teaser posted via the group's social medias announced they will make their first ever comeback on October 13 with the single album "Light a Wish".[15] On this day, the single album, along with its title track "VIVACE", were released.

On December 18, the group released their first OST single, titled "Dance Dance", for the animated children's show Bella's Dream.

LIGHTSUM won the "Female Rookie Idol Award" at the 2022 Korea First Brand Award held on December 26.[16]

2022: Into The Light, Huiyeon and Jian's departure[]

On May 6, 2022, LIGHTSUM posted three teasers across their social media accounts that hinted at a potential comeback - their first in over 7 months.[17] Two days later, a teaser announced that the group's first mini album, Into The Light, will be released on May 24.[18] On this day, the mini album, along with its title track "ALIVE", were released.

On October 25, 2022 Cube Entertainment announced that Huiyeon and Jian left LIGHTSUM and the group will continue promoting with six members going forward.[1]

LIGHTSUM won the "Potential Award" in the category "Music" at the 2022 Asia Artist Awards held in the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan on December 13.[19]

2024: Comeback with POSE![]

On July 31st, 2024, CUBE Announced that LIGHTSUM Will have a comeback on August 7th with the Digital Single POSE!, The group released the Music Video on August 7th after two M/V Teasers following the Fan Chant Guide on August 8th.
